VALEDICTORY.
At the Rangitumau Hall, on Tuesday night .last, a very pleasant function took place when Mr and Mrs H. C. Bertelsen and family, who are leaving the district to take up their residence at Cambridge (Waikato), where Mr Berte'.sen has purchased a property, were tendered a social and were the recipients of presentations from the settlers. There were about one hundred people present. Mr Duncan McLachlan presided, and, on behalf of the settlers in the district, presented Mr Bertelsen with a travelling rug and Mrs Bertlesen with a handsome dressing-case. In doing so Mr McLachlan referred to the many sterling qualities of the recipients whose loss would be very much felt by. all. Mr Bertelsen had for years past associated himself with everything that tended to advance the district, and it was chiefly through his untiring efforts that they now had a splendil hall and creamery. Mr Bertelsen rjturned thanks in a neat speech. Ho assured those present that he would look back with pleasant recollections to the old associations, and trusted that the district would continue to progress. Dancing and singing were indulged in till about 1.30 a.m. Mr T. Wrigley supplied the music, and Mr P. McLachlan was M.C. Songs were sung by Mrs F. P. Welch, Misses Macdonlald and Stewart, and Messrs G. Stewart, Clarke, and J. McLachlan. A splendid supper was provided by the ladies. The gathering was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
