MASTERTON BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL BEFORT. ■Jr The annual report of the Masterton Bowling Club to be presented to the annual meeting of members on July 25th is as follows: It is with pleasure that the General Committee submit the annual report and balance sheet for the period (eleven months) ending June 30th, 1907. The membership roll now stands at 112, a decrease of five for the year. This is a matter that should engage the serious attention of every member. Improvements to the Club's property have taken the shape of tarring and sanding the whole of the footpaths and the erection of necessary buildings. The "North Island Bowling Association Bi-Annual Championship Tournament was held in January last, and proved an unqualified success. The special Committee set up worked assiduously j and well, and the Secretary (Mr E. J. Rose) and his assistant (Mr C. King) were untiring in their effor's to make the tournament tie success it undoubtedly was. The visitox-s were loud in their pi'aise of the manner in which the tourrair.ent was conducted. The committee desire to place on record the splenoid assistance given by members and others in response to the committee's appeal for donations towards the expenses of the tournament. It would be invid'ous to mention narnod, so weil did one and aii «fork. Our Club was represented at the tournament by Meesrs W. C. Perry, R. Rigg, ,J. W. Cochrane and J. Whittaker, and although they did not succeed in winning the championship they had the honor of being the only team that defeated the winners. The treasurer will duly lay the financial position before members. Considering the extra expense necessarily entailed in holding the tournament in Masterton, our finances are on a very satisfactory footing, and with future economy in management and enthusiasm on the part of members in obtaining new bowling recruits, a substantial sum should be paid off the Club's indebtedness each year. Too much cannot be said in praise of the ladies (under the capable direction of Mrs E. Richards) who have provided afternoon tea throughout the season, and who also provided on a most generous scale, the refreshments and afternoon tea during the tournament, the success of which was in a large measure due to their kindness" find attention to the visitors. It is felt by the outgoing committee that during the coming season club and trophy competitions should be encouraged. This will stimulate inter'flßembers. The thanks of the Club i i\> due to Mr G. T. Seale, for his donation of a trophy, consisting of a pair of bowls, which were won by Mr J. Robieson. Mr F. J. Dignan, who ably filled the position of President of our Club for nearly six years took his departure from Masterton in December last. The Club has lost in him an enthusiastic member and a capable administrator, and he carries with him the best wishes of every member. His duties have been carried on by Mr 0. Pragnell, Vice-President.
