PUBLIC BATHS.
THE CHAPEL STREET SITE. (To the Editor.) Sir,—Re the above a great deal has been said, and a number of sites suggested —all good in their own way, but the ideal site, to my mind, and I quite agree with Mr Jackson and Mr Thread well in the views they have already expressed in your columns in favour of it, is the Chapel Street site, and my reasons arefirst, it is adjacent to the School, which reason is in itself sufficiently i good, thereby enabling lessons to be given to the children; and, secondly, ! it is not necessary to have the baths near a stream or river, as I understand high-pressure water will be used, and, thirdly, the Showgrounds are situated in Dixon Street and also the Public Park, and it is not essential to have all our beauty spots in one street. Therefore, in utilising the Chapel Street site, we would then have our beauty spots scattered ■ over various parts of the town; and, fourthly, a good fall is obtainable to • empty the baths when required. Now, Mr Editor, I think you will . agree with me that the four reasons , which I have quoted are excellent ones in favour of the above site. —I am, etc., ; G.W. . (One of the Old Boys and a resident of t;:e town during the : last sever years.) i* (We cannot see that the site in Chapel Street is superior to that proposed in Dixon Street. It is certainly desirable that the baths should be situated in the vicinity of the Masterton School.—Ed. W.A.)
