WORKS COMMITTEE. Th 3 Works Committee of the Master! :>n Borough Councill met, last eve .ling, theref being present—Crs J. H. Pauli :g (chairman), W. Pragnell, J. Pre".Lice, W. Morris, A. Haughey, s id the Mayor. With reference to the Schcol Committee's application that something should be done to repair the footpath in Chapel Street at the rear of the School, it was decided to reply that the work was already in hand and would be carried out when the weather permits. The Engineer was instructed to report at the next meeting on the cost of gravelling Nursery Road from Johnstone Street to the Ruamahanga River; also on the cost of extending Colombo Road to Cockburn Street extension. ' It was decided to accept Mr W. B. Chennells' offer to give the land for the widening of Albert Street provided the Council will move back his hpuse and erect the fence. * It was resolved to inform Mr Thos. Moss that there was no loan money, for a culvert in Donald Street. Crs Pragnell, Morris and Prentice were appointed a committee to wait on Messrs Dagg Bros, and H. Evans to make the most suitable a"rangements with reference to stones for crushing. Crs Pauling and Morris were appointed to wait on the owners interested in regard to the widening of Kuripuni Street for about 29 chains above Mr E. Jones' property. The Engineer v;as instructed to obtain inform with regard to securing additional screens for the stone-breaker for dealing with larger stones. In connection with letting the waterworks reserve, the Town Clerk reported that it would be necessary for the Council to pass a Special Order before any portion of thi reserve could be let for a term on lease. It was decided to recommend the Council to pass" a Special Order enabling that part of the reserve known as "Big Island," containing 120 acres, to be let for a term on lease and about 47 acres of the remainder of the reserve to be let on a yearly tenancy. The committee decided to recommend the Council to pay half the cost of the culvert over the creek in the Renall Estate. The tender of Mr M. ,Kerins, at £1 19s per chain, was accepted for making footpaths in Church Street extension. The Engineer was directed to curtail the work with reference to the culvert in Renall Street as much as possible and call alternate tenders for wood and concrete top? to the culvert. It was decided to accept the offer of Mr D. McLachlan tor work in York Street. The Engineer was instructed to take off the broken crust of asphalt in Cole Street and Queen Street, near the Convent, and level the foot paths so as to allow the water to escape.
