FOOTBALL.

NEW ZEALAND v. QUEENSLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received July 15, 9.20 a.m. BRISBANE, July 15. The following team. has been selected to represent Queensland against the New Zealand team:— Fullback, P. Carmichael; threequarters, Parkinson, Watson, Pearce, and Corrie; halves, Ahem and J. Carmichael; forwards, Brighton, Oxenham, Oxlade, Caniffe, Sampson, Richards, Flanagan and Fihilly. THE ALL-BLACKS CRITICISED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Received July 15, 9.8 a.m. SYDNEY, July 15. The Sydney Morning Herald, referring to Saturday's football match between New South Wales and the "All-Blacks," says:— "The New South Wales team fought magnificently, t'iking honours in the first half in scoring a brilliant try. The weight of the opposing team, however, broke its defence to pieces, and concentrating its splendid manhood, it pushed the game three times across the Blue champions' goal line, and thus amply avenged the New South Wales score in the first half." The Herald considers that the New Zealanders played below their reputation in the first half. This may have been due to the pace of the home team, or to the lack of vim of the visitors. The Daily Telegraph says" Without detracting from the merit of the splendid all-round performance of the New South Wales players, it cannot be claimed, on their form on Saturday that the New Zealand team is equal to some of its predecessors. It may be that there was too much "All Black" in it —the ghosts of former giants—or that they were clearly below their form; but it is certain that for the greater part of the game +here was no fire in them. If Saturday's display was thei: best, then the New Zealanders will find themselves fighting for {heir lives for the remainder of the tour. It was their stamina above all that pulled them through." On . the Showgrounds, on Thursday, a Senior Banner contest is to take place between Rover A and Eketahuna. As both teams are strong and evenly matched an interesting game should be witnessed. The Thursday Senior and Saturday Senior representatives are to try conclusions, at Carterton, on July 25th. The Thursday team will be selected on Thursday night.
