SACRED CONCERT.

The sacred concert given in the Town Hall, last evening, in aid of Mr J. K. Blinkhorne and family, was a success beyond expectations. Despite the weather conditions the audience was one of the largest that has been seen in the building, the collection taken at the doors amounting to £26 10s Id. The programme submitted was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. The first item was a rendition gf Ord Hume's "La Straniera," by the Masterton Municipal Brass Band. The Band gave a splendid interpretation of the piece. Mr W. Iggulden sang "Calvary" in capital style, and Mr S. J. Johnston's pleasing tenor voice was heard to advantage in "The Holy City." A quartette, "Call to Remembrance," by Messrs F. J. Hunn, W. Jago, Miss Sweetman and Mrs Jago, was warmly applauded. Miss Green was unable to appear owing to illness, and the vacancy was filled by Mr F. W. G. McLeod, who played the cornet solo "Dream of Paradise" very nicely. "Les Rameaux" was a very good item, Mr W. Jago's rendering of the song wera decidedly fine. Mr F. J. Hunn was deservedly applauded for his singing of "Arm, Arm, Ye Brave." Miss Sweetman used her fine soprano voice with effect in "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth." A very enjoyable item was the selection, "The March of the Priests," rendered by the Masterton Orchestral Society junder the baton of Mr S. Earee. The,, accompaniments were ably played by Mrs Hunn and Miss Iggulden. Prior to the concluding item Mr W. Iggulden, on behalf of the committee, thanked the audience for their attendance, and said that he was pleased to have such a large sum as that taken at the hall that evening to hand over to Mr Blinkhorne. He also thanked those who had contributed items to the programme, particularly mentioning the Masterton Municipal Brass Band and the j Masterton Orchestral Society.
