THE NEW ZEALAND SCULLER. SYDNEY, July 13. Webb, the New Zealand sculler, has been taking matters rather easily this week, though strong winds have made the Parramatta River anything but a pleasant bit of water for rowing on. The visitor's rowing generally has brightened, and at the finish of the stroke he pushes his swing right home vigorously. He is at a disadvantage in having'no one to accompany him, and there has been no opportunity of gauging his pace. Charles Towns says he feels well, though his looks do not convey that impression. He is doing a large amount of solid work, his brother and Fogwell making the pace for j him. !' . • CANADIAN LACROSSE TEAM. " Received July 14, 5.20 p.m. BRISBANE, July 14. The Canadian lacrosse team arrived to-day by the Aorangi, from Vancouver. AN AVENGING PARTY. Received July 15, 1.11 a.m. SYDNEY, July 14. Noumea advices state that the cruiser Cambrian, which arrived from the New Hebrides, visited the Island of Mallicolo in connection with the murder of an English trader. A landing party fired upon the natives. The latter replied, wounding ten of the Bluejackets, one of whom died. TROUBLE AVERTED. Received July 15, 1.11 a.m. SYDNEY, July 14. The prospect of threatened trouble in the tailoring trade has been averted, several firms having conceded the demands of the employees.
