MASTERTON MUNICIPAL FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL REPORT. The twenty-first annual report of the Masterton Municipal Fire Brigade, which was adopted at the annual meeting of the Brigade on Tuesday evening last, states, inter alia, that the past year has been an unusually quiet one, but the general standard of efficiency of the Brigade has been fully maintained. During the year there were 48 musters, made up as follows: — Meetings 26, fires 12, special meetings 2, rubbish fires 3, false alarms 5. The attendances for the year totalled 1,076, the average attendance being Meetings 23, alarms 21J, all musters 22J. This result showed a better average attendance than the preceding year. The maximum musters for the year were 48. Captain Jenkins and Senior Foreman Braggins tied for first place in marks for attendance. Branchmen Warner and Holmes were second and third respectively. Nine new j members were elected during the ■ year, and seven members resigned, j The list of honorary members shows ; a decrease compared with last year. During the year long service honours i had been presented as follows:— 1 j Branchman E. Warner, five years j service medal; Fireman Haughey i three] years service certificate and j two years extra service bar; Secre- j tary Pragnell, two service bars, and j Captain Jenkins, Lieut. Ewington, Fireme E. G. McEwen, JLJ. Braggins, j H. Gardner, J; Berry, E. J. Braggins, ; and Engineer Norman, one service ; medal each. The report refers to the success of the bazaar held during j the year in conjunction with the Vol- ! u:iteei*s and Band, the visit of the j Brigade's team to the Exhibition j Demonstration at Christchurch, where the sum of £2O was won in prize money. The Secretary represented the Brigade at the annual : conference of the U.F.8.A., and a motion forwarded by the Masterton Brigade to the effect that all Brigade messengers should in future be al- | lowed half service for long service honours, was carried. The Secretary had also brought forward Hydrantman Church's application for a gold star, and the mat- j ter had been relegated to a special committee, which will sit at Napier. Reference is made to the Fire Brigade's Bill having been placed on the Statute Book during the year, and to the proposal that Masterton should be created a fire district under the Act having been carried at a poll of the ratpayers. Since the Brigade would shortly be brought under the jurisdiction of the Fire Board the opportunity was taken to to thank the ! Borough Council for the support ! given to the Brigade in the past.
