CLOSER SETTLEMENT.
(To the Editor.) g rj —i notice in your issue of the ',loth instant, that the above movement came up for discussion in our Borough Council. Now, bir, I think you will, with many others, agree with me when I say that as the Council has so many irons in the fire, and seeing that nmst of the Councillors <did not care to deal with the matter, •although they were in favour of closer settlement for Masterton, that, as the Mayor said, it was work for the Land Settlement League. I think the Council would be doing a wise thing to hand over any further business of the kind that may come •up to the League to deal with, and that would leave them free for municipal business. I am sure the League would handle the question in the best way for all concerned, when we remember that c'oser settlement is -one of its main vlanks. Trusting, Sir, I have not taken up too much of vour valuable space.—l am, etc., PAIR PLAY. Masterton, July 31th, 1907.
