MASTERTON GASWORKS.
Tha report from the Manager of the Gasworks on the probable requirements at the Gasworks during tha next six years, which has already been published in the Wairarapa Age, was submitted by the Gas Committee to the Masterton Borough Council, last evening, for adoption. Cr Temple, in supporting the adoption of the report, said it was one of the best reports the Council had had before it. The Mayor said the report meant a loan, which he was sure the ratepayers would sanction. Cr Haughey said that the large increase in the output of gas that would take place during the next six years brought up the question as to whether the present site of the Gasworks would be large enough for re quirements. He considered the sice would not be large enough, and thought that the Committee should take into consideration the question of removing the Gasworks site to a site n2ar the railway station. The Manager (Mr J. W. Blackman) said that obtaining a new site would mean another loan of £15,000. The only advantage to be gained by removing the works nearer the railway station would be the saving in' the cartage of the coal, as he had room at the present site, with certain enlargements in the plant, to turn out a million feet of gas per day, which would be sufficient for Masterton 's requirements for many years to come. The report was then adopted.
