MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
GAS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Finance and Gas Committee of the Masterton Borough Council was held, last evening, there being present—Crs F. W. Temple (chairman), J. Elliott, J. CL Ewington, and J. Yarr. Tenders were opened for laying gas mains in Essex Street, part of Pownall Street extension, Cole Street extension, and Cornwall Street. On the motion of the Chairman the tender of Messrs McCord and Martin, at 19s per chain, was accepted. With regard to the extension of gas mains in Makora Street, the Manager of the Gasworks reported that until the 3 inch main was laid in place of the 1J inch pipe in Bannister Street, Colombo Road and Worksop Road, it was useless to consider any extension to Makora Road and. Johnstone Street. He would, however, ascertain the length of gas main required to supply the residents of Makora Road who petitioned the Council for the extension of the gas mains and submit a report of the cost, so that the matter might be considered when the Bannister Street main is re-laid. The Manager was instructed to report on the cost of street lighting in the borough. It was decided to call alternate tenders for the supply of coal at the gasworks for one, two and three years. The Committee decided to apply to the Council for the weighbridge, the Committee to erect it in such a position at the gasworks that it will be available for public use. Accounts amounting to £235 15s 7d were recommended for payment.
