MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
MASTERTON—SATURDAY. Before Mr W. P. James, S.M.) Mrs F. H. Bray made application to have the maintenance order against her husband, J. Bray, enlarged. Mr M. Lavery appeared for the defendant. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate increased the order by 5s per week. In.the case of William Mackersey, charged with failing to comply with an order of the Court to pay 5s per week towards the support of his wife the Magistrate declined to make an order. A charge against Charles Cross ot wife desertion and failing to maintain his wife was, on the application of Mr C. A. Pownall, adjourned. Charges of discharging firearms in the^borough on July 4th-/without lawful authority were preferred against Harold Reynolds and William Jones, both of whom pleaded not guilty, and were defended by Mr C. A. Pownall. Constable Kyle said that both defendants had been shooting on Thursday last in a gallery in Queen Street, which was in charge of Herbert Jones. Sergeant Miller said that Jones had been warned against allowing nersons to shoot in the gallery on account of a recent accident there. Mr Pownall said that the shooting gallery was the only means of livelihood Mrs Jones had. It had been once licensed, and he asked that the case should be adjourned for a week in order that he might make application to the Borough Council for a continuance of the license. The application was granted.
