(By Zetland.) THE WELLINGTON MEETING. The handicaps for the Wellington Meeting appeared up to time. As a rule Mr J. H. Pollock is apt to make what are termed "flattering" handicaps, but on this occasion he has given the better class of performers good loads to carry. This will be emphasised on the day, should the weather be wet and the track consequently heavy. In the Stewards' Handicap, *of six furlongs. Lord Soult heads the list with list 51b. Considering that he cannot nowj be properly strung up in condition, he is not at all well treated. St. Claimer lOst 51b, Intelligence 9s 111b, Platypus 9st 61b, and Chicane 9st 4lb, read well. For the Miramar Hack Handicap, of seven furlongs, Martyrium lOst 51b, Warlock 9st 91b, and Compass lOst, are fairly well in on recent performances. Kremlin,llst 101b, is exceptionally well loaded in the Hack Hurdles, to be run over a mile and threequarters, while Auratus, list 21b, is also well looked after. Le Beau lOst 121b, Matakokiri lOst 71b, Pretty ( 4 Maid lOst 71b, and Black Squall 9st 41b, "should be among the accceptors, and the best of these on the day will take beating. In the Parliamentary Handicap, one mile, Marguerite, list lib, and Lady Annie, lOst 121b, have been well taken care of by the handi capper, when it is considered that top weights very seldom prevail in the winter time. Kuku lOst 4lb, Aeolus lOst 41b, Narcotic lOst 21b, Intelligence 9stßlb, Shrapnel Shell 9st 51b, and Ellerton 9st 31b are fairly dealt with. Intelligence appears to be the pick of the handicap, while Ellerton, if he strips in good condition, will be capable of making a good race of it. For the Winter Hurdle Handicap, of two miles, |Cuiragno, list 111b, Exmoor list 91b, and Lady Hune list 31b, are well up in the weights when it is taken into consideration that among the nine-stone division are fast performers like Asteroid, Le Beau, Bonheur, Aqua Regia, Sardonyx and Levant. Winners like Pushful lOst 91b, Mauri lOst 61b, Merriwai lOst 31b, Black Reynard lOst lib, Bonheur and Aqua Regia 9st 81b, are nicely treated, and the winner may come from this lot. A double machine will be opened on the Parliamentary Handicap and Winter Hurdles. The Wellington Steeplechase, the principal race of the meeting, will be run on the second day, Wednesday, 24th instant. VICTORIA GRAND NATIONAL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Received July 6. 9.30 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 6. There was cold fine weather for the Victorian Racing Club's Winter Meeting. . The Grand National Hurdles resulted as follows: —Bribery 1, Solano 2, South Head 3. Seventeen started. Betting : 4to 1 Solano, 7 to 1 Lion Heart and Red Sea, 8 to 1 Preston Pans. Lion Heart endeavoured to win from end to end, and held a commanding lead to the sheds the last time round, where South Head, Bribery and Superstition were on terms. Bribery led into the straight, and coming away won by five lengths. Lion Heart finished in the rear. Time, smin 53sec.
