After a trial lasting many days, Carlos Waddington, son of the Chilian Charge d'Affaires, at Brussels, was acquitted on a charge of killing Ernest nephew of the late President of Chili, on February 24th, 1906. The evidence" showed that Balmaceda, after seducing Waddington's sister, refused to fulfil his promise of marriage and threatened a terrible scandal in Chili. There was a remarkable scene in the court at the close of the trial. The men cheered and women embraced Waddington.
