WAIRARAPA VETERINARY ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL REPORT,

The following is the annual report of the Wairarapa Veterinary Association, to be submitted to the annual meeting of members [on July 13th : In presenting the second annual report and statement of accounts of the Wairarapa Veterinary Association, your Executive Committee regret having to record a tardy movement so far as the support of the Association is concerned. The members' roll now totals 172. On the issue of the Association's statement in 1906 it was confidently hoped that the appeal then made to the farmers of the district for their co-operation would be readily acceded to; the contrary, however, has been experienced an increase of only 12 in membership being recorded during the past year. It is evident that unless the desired support is forthcoming, it must soon become necessary to dispense with the services of a district Veterinary Surgeon, when stock owners will be compelled to depend upon their own knowledge and experience regarding the ailments of, and accidents to, their stock. The Association's Veterinarian, Mr W. G. Taylor, is now entering upon the third and last year of his engagement, and members will, at the end of the ensuing year, be required to state definitely if it is their wish that the work of the Association be continued or otherwise. The balancesheet shows a debit balance of .£lO5 4s, which compares very unfavourably with the figures presented a year ago, the debit then being £56 19s lid. Coming to the actual work of the Veterinarian for the past year your Committee note a decrease of £7 6s in charges made in respect of fees, operations and mileage. A serijus matter for the -consideration of members generally is that a sum of £42 for members' subscriptions remains unpaid at the close of the financial year. In view of the fact that the annual subscription amounts to only 10s it seems unreasonable that such a sum should be outstanding, and your committee respectfully request' members to make themselves financial. Your Executive Committee, consisting of Messr R. J. Dagg, F. C. Lewis and fck William Perry (appointed by the W Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association), and Q. Donald, J. Strang, and James Wall (appointed by the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society), retire in accordance with the rules of the Association, and are eligible for re-election by their respective Societies.
