THE KAISER OFFENDED.
ROYAL YACHT "BLANKETED."
Received July 3, 8.52 a.m. BERLIN, July t '2.
During the progress of a yacht race at Kiel, Herr Tietgin's yacht, from Hamburg, "blanketed" the Kaiser's yacht Meteor. The Kaiser ordered Herr Tietgin to clear away, and afterwards lodged a protest. The Imperial Yacht Club dismissed the protest. The Kaiser was offended and refused to distribute the prizes.
(To "blanket" a yacht is to sail up on the windward side and take the wind out of its sails—a means of outmanoeuvring an opponent which yachtsmen consider legitimate.)
