RIP VAN WINKLE.
The Taylor-Carrington Dramatic Company will pay Masterton another visit on Wednesday evening next, and present a strong attraction in the form of Boucicault's famous play, Rip Van Winkle. Rip is Mr Charlie Taylor's favourite star impersonation. A Melbourne paper states: — "When the Theatre Royal management announced that the favourite actor and comedian., Mr Charles Taylor, was about to appear in the part of Rip Van Winkle, many old play-goers who remembered the great Joseph Jefferson's inimitable impersonation prophesied failure. But difficult as the task was Mr Taylor came through the ordeal triumphantly, amid the plaudits of a most enthusiastic audience. He was equally at home in both the comic and pathetic phases of the character and his mastery of the Dutch dialect was worthy of the great Jefferson himself. Rip Van Winkle will form a valuable addition to Mr Taylor's large repertoire of star impersonations."
