SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Red Star I. 35, Greytown nil. Masterton I. 39, Gladstone nil. Red Star 11. 11, Carterton 11. 3. Masterton 11. 11, Featherston 3. Ruahine 5, Martinborough nil. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. RED STAR v. GREYTOWN. A match was played, on the Showgrounds, Masterton, on Saturday last, between the Red Star and Greytown Seniors, and resulted in ade • cisive victorv for Red Star by 35 points to nil."The following were the teams:—Red Star— Full-back, J. Kingdon; three-quarters, Wilioughby, Dorsett and Walker; five-eighth, Wrigley; half, Adams; wings, Chambers and Scorrar; forwards, Clarke, Todd, Collett, Corbett, Du Blois, Chamberlain, McLachlan. Grevtown—Stevens, Fuller, Beard, J. Workman, R. Workman, Familton, Jury, Raisen, Meldonhall, Wynes, Hendry, Kellaway, and Haigh. Red Star won the toss, and attacked. From a low long kick by Chambers Grevtown forced. From the kick-off Adams made a good run and passed to Todd, who transferred the ball back again to Adams, and play was removed close to the Grevtown line. A free kick relieved. A penalty kick by Wrigley forced Greytown. Adams obtained the ball from a scrum, and passed to Wrigley. The latter sent the ball on to Dorsett, who scored after a smart run. Todd failed to convert. Shortly afterwards Adams again obtained the ball, and passed to Wrigley, who scored. Wriglev converted. Two or three minutes later Greytown again forced. J. Workman made a fine run for Greytown, but the Stars, headed by Scorrar, Chambers, Todd and Du Blois transferred play to the visitors' territory again, and Greytown forced. Two minutes after Greytown again sought relief in a force. Beard and Raisen headed a Greytown rush, which was stopped by Wrigley. The Star backs indulged in a passing rush, and carried play into the visitors' territory. Walker snapped up the ball, and scored a clever try between the posts. Wrigley converted. Then Scorrar crossed the line for Red Star, Adams converting the try. Shortly after McLachlan scored from a forward rush. Walker failed to convert, and half-time sounded with the score — ■ Red Star 21 Greytown nil. In the second spell the Stars had matters all their own way, and scored when they liked. The spell only lasted about 20 minutes, during which time the Stars added 14 points to their score. Tries were scored by Chambers, Wrigley, Dorsett, and Du Blois, Wrigley converting the latter's try. The game thus ended Red Star 35 points Greytown nil Mr E. McKenzie was referee, and Messrs D. Beere and E. Jenkins were line umpires. MASTERTON v. GLADSTONE.
The Masterton team journeyed to Gladstone, on Saturday, and secured afvery easy win over the local team. The game was all in the visitors' favor, and at the call of time the latter had compiled the respectable score of 39 points against the home team's nil. The Masterton score consisted of ten tries (three converted) and a penalty goal. Tries were scored by Minett (3), Duggan (2), Logan (2), Gsay, Spackman and Mackellar. O'Leary converted two tries, and Ross one. Spackman kicked the penalty goal. Mr F. Koyhdhouse was referee. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. RED STAR v. CARTERTON. The Red Star Juniors defeated Carterton Juniors, at Carterton, on Saturday last, by 11 points to 3. For the winners Smith and K. Welch scored tries, V. Williams converting the latter's try. V. Williams also kicked a penalty goal. Desmond scored a try for Carterton. Mr J. McKenzie was referee, and Messrs H. McKenzie and Groube were the line umpires. RUaHINE v. MARTINBOROUGH. Ruahine defeated Martinborough, at Grey town, on Saturday last, by 5 points to nil. MASTERTON v. FEATHERSTON. Masterton boat Featherston, at Carterton, on Saturday, by 11 points to 3. For the winners, M. O'Leary scored two tries and MacMahon one, the latter's try being converted by Holms. Mr Nicholls was referee.
