MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
MASTERTON—SATUR DAY. (Before Mr W. P. James, S.M.) Frederick William Anderson pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment. On similar charges Michael Byrne and Samuel Koko, the latter having been in charge of a horse at the time of the offence, were each fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Elizabeth McKee, represented by Mr C. A. Pownall, made application for a separation order against her husband, James McKee. Defendant made no appearance. The Clerk explained that defendant had been present in the Court earlier in the morning, but had since left. Plaintiff stated that she had four children, the eldest of whom was 15 years. The defendant was frequently under the influence of drink, and when in that state was in the habit of assaulting her. Her life had become unbearable, and she was becoming afraid of the defendant. Plaintiff's daughter gave similar evidence. The Magistrate granted the separation order, giving the plaintiff custody of the children and ordering the defendant to pay 25s per week for their support, and pay £1 8s costs.
