THOSE TWO SITES.

MATTER AGAIN BEFORE THE TRUST.

The much-discussed question of the exchange of sites between the Trust Lands Trust and the Government was again before the meeting of the Trustees last evening. The Chairman (Mr Michell) stated that Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., had informed him that he had seen the Minister of Justice on the matter. The Minister had replied that the matter was. "hung up" pending Mr Hogg taking some action. ■- Mr Eton asked whether the Trust had committed themselves in the exchange of sites to the Government, and if so, to what extent? Mr Caselberg said he understood that Messrs C. E. Daijiell and J. A. Renall had gone to Wellington and offered to pay the Government £BOO in connection with the exchange of the two sites. Mr Wagg said that Messrs Daniell pnd Renall had no power to make such an offer. They had not the con - sent of the Trustees to do so. Mr Caselberg: It seems strange that they should have gone to Wellington. Mr McEwen explained that Mr Daniell was in Wellington at a Harbour Board meeting, and Mr Renall on Borough business, and as they were both in Wellington together they decided to intervifiw the Minister of Justice regarding the exchange. Mr Eton suggested that a deputation from the Trustees should wait upon the Minister of Justice to see what terms could be arrived at in connection with the exchange. Mr Jackson said that the Government might be induced to allow the Trust easy terms on which to pay off what they considered to be the difference in the value of the two sites. If the Government allowed the Trußt to pay off, say, £SO per annum, and the Trust were able to obtain a rental of £5 per foot for the 40 feet frontage in Queen Street, the Trust would make a profit of £l5O per annum. Eventually it was decided that the members of the Trust should form a "deputation to wait on the Minister of Justice in Wellington to push forward the question of the exchange of sites.
