MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

MASTERTON —FRIDAY.

(Before Mr W. P. James, S.M.) A first offender was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, for having been drunk. A. C. R. S. McDonnell pleaded guilty to a charge of exposing sheep infected with lice for sale in a public saleyard, on June sth. A fine of 40s, with 7s costs, was imposed. Otto Hornig pleaded not guilty to a charge of having ridden a bicycle on the footpath in Pine Street, on June 18th, contrary to the borough by-laws. After hearing the evidence of Constables Tovvnsend and Gregor as to the offence having been committed, a fine of 10s, with 7s costs, was imposed. Defendant was allowed until Monday to pay the fine. Peter Neilsen did not appear to answer a charge of allowing his chimney to become foul and take fire. Defendant Was fined ss, with 7s costs. Phillip L. Hollings admitted a charge of driving a motor car on the footpath in Colombo Road contrary to the borough by-laws. Defendant said he had driven the car on the footpath owing to the wretched state of the roads. The Magistrate inflicted a fine of 5s witfy 7s costs.
