SWIMMING BATHS FOR MASTERTON.
THE QUESTION OF A SITE. ' The question of fixing the site for the swimming baths was before the Masterton Borough Council last evening, when the Park Committee recommended that the baths should be built in the Park at the end of Dixon Street. Cr Haughey opened the discussion by saying that he did not believe in the proposed site for the baths because there were better sites m Masterton for baths. Cr Yarv moved that that part of the Park Committee's report relating to the position of the baths be deleted with a view to the Council fixing the site. He considered that the baths should be situated near the school, so that the children might be taught to swim under the supervision of iho headmaster. ■ Cr Haughey seconded the motion. Cr Ewington, speaking in support of the Park Committee's recommendation, said that the site fixed for the baths was secure from floods. The Committee were not particular about the site for the baths, but they had given careful, consideration 'to every site and considered that the one at tfae end of Dixon Street was most suitable. The Committee would not care if the Council fixed the site for the baths.
The motion was then put to the meeting, and carried on the casting vote of the Mayor, the voting beipg— Ayes: Crs Pauling, Haughey, Pragnell, Yarr and the Mayor. Noes: Crs Elliott, Temple, Morris, Prentice and Ewington.
