PUBLIC BATHS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I notice in the report of the Park Committee meeting, in Jour paper, that it has been resolved to fix the site of the above in the Park. Now, Sir, although they had their Engineer's report before them, and he considered the site should be in Chapel Street, near the High School, the Committee thought otherwise. I think you will agree with me, Sir, that the Engineer is not alone in his view, Sjeeing we must use the highpressure water at any site mentioned, to me the Chapel Street site is * the ideal spot. There are many \ things in ,itai.favour. Not only is it IL near 'the School, but there would be ' '4m& good outlet into] the Makora Creek. 'Though the expense may be more, it would be the cheapest in the long run. There is no telling when the Waipoua River may overflow its banks—thus no telling where the expense will end in connection with the Park site. The other site, once built on, is done with, and the nearer the School the greater convenience become tKe baths as a sporting place for our boys and girls. I am a firm believer that they should all learn to swim. Now, Sir, 1 hope, that when the question is before our Council we may hear more about the sites, and that each will be judged on its merits, if we have the baths up-to-date I don't see why they will not become popular, not only Jto Masterton,, but to the surrounding districts, as they have become in other parts of New Zealand and Australia, where I have been. - Hoping, Sir, I have not taken up too much of your valuable space.—l am, etc., . , D.
