The Auckland City Council hag received two claims for compensation, one for £4,000 by the Kauri Timber Company, and one for £2,000 by H. W. Fuller, for loss of riparian rights and property taken, respectively, for water-works extension. The Wellington correspondent of the Christchurch Press writes :—A correspondent of the Taihape Post states that owing to the inability of the officials to secure adequate rolling stock, ballasting operations on the North Island Main Trunk railway line during the past fortnight have been practically suspended. An expert has informed me that some of the rails on a section he recently travelled over will need to bo relaid before the Railway Department could run an express train over them.
