MASTERTON WOOL AND SKIN SALES.

Mesrs Levin and Co. report as follows:—We held our monthly sale of wool, skins, hides and tallow, yesterday, offering 60 bales and 70 bags of wool, 1,600 skins, 200 hides, and a quantity of horsehair, tallow, etc. There was a full attendance of buyers. We had a large entry of crutchings. which met with fa fair demand at a price. Crutchings this season are not in the condition they were last winter. The wet weather is causing them to be shorn damp and dirty, and buyers complain that the yield will be considerably less than usual. This has a depressing influence on prices, but further than this, buyers are not operating in this class of wool with much confidence, owing to heavy losses made last season. There was a fall of a iarthing to a halfpenny per lb on this wool as compared with last sale here, and the best crutchings realised 6d to 6Jd. We quote—Medium crossbred wool, 7d to 8d; dead, 7d to 7Jd; pieces and bellies, 4£d to 6d; locks, to 4d; crutchings, good, sjdto6-ld; crutchings, medium and inferior, 4Jd to 5Jd. Skins were easier to the extent of a halfpenny to one penny all round. We quote: Woolly crossbreda Bsd, B|d, 7id to 7|d; half and quarter wools, Bd, B|d, 7Jd to 7Jd; short wools, 7d, 7>}d, 6Jd to 6Jd; dead skins, 5Jd. 7d, 5d to 6Jd; lamb skins, Bd. B|d, 7id, to 7|d. Hides market steady. Medium ox and cow, to sid; cut and inferior, 4d to4|d; calfskins, 3d to 6§d; stag and bull hides, 3d to 4d. Growers are urged to use more salt in hides, to make them keep and render them fit for marketing. Tallow.—Casks, none offering; packages, 21s, tins 20s, rough fat 14s. The next sale will be held July 31st.
