PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS.
MATTER BEFORE THE PARK COMMITTEE. The Borough Engineer reported to the meeting of the Park Committee, last evening, with regard to public swimming baths for Masterton. The Engineer considered that baths should be erected within a reasonable distance of the District High School. There were sites in both Chapel and Dixon Streets belonging to the Trust Lands Trust which were suitable for baths. Failing these being available, there was a suitable site at the end of Dixon Street in the Park. In any case, the water would have to be supplied from the highpressure supply. Plans were submitted for a bath' in the present Park lake, and one for the other sites mentioned. The sizes of the baths were 80ft x 40ft and 100 ft x 50ft. The committee resolved to fix the site for the baths in the Park at the lower end of Dixon Street, and that alternative tenders be called for baths either 100 ft x 40ft or 80ft by 40ft, according to the Engineer's plans, to include getting the water into the baths and away, fencing, erection of sheds, and outlet drain.
