HIGH COMMISSIONERS' REPORT.

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, 15th instant—The mutton market is quiet, and trade for all classes is very slow, prices being barely maintained. A moderate supply of Canterbury sold at 4d per lb, and North Island at 3.sd perjb. The lamb market is firm, and there is a good demand for all classes. Canterbury brands are quoted at s§d, Other than Canterbury 5Jd. The beef market is very firm, and stocks of Zealand beef are light. The quotations are 4|d and Sgd for hindquarters and forequarterp, respectively. The butter market is firm, notwithstanding the large' stocks. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 995, Siberian 91s, Dan,ish 107s. The cheese market is quiet, and prices are likely to go lower owing to Canadian supplies increasing. New Zealand cheese is giving satisfaction to buyers, but complaints are received of light weights. White is quoted at 64s and coloured at 635. This season's Canadian cheese is quoted at 60s. The hemp market is very'quiet, and buyers are cautious. Fair grade, on the spot, is quoted ait £29 10s, £29. Good fair grade, on the spot, is quoted at £33 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet. Bright clean New Zealand, 171b to the bushel, is quoted at 54s per cwt. The arrivals from the .River Plate during May were:— Mutton London 118,141, Liverpool 140,63j/ Hull 11,593, Cardiff 8,728, Southampton 999, Newcastle 8,000, Ireland 3,934. Lamb: London, 9,159; Liverpool 4,597, Hull 1,000, Cardiff 500, Newcastle 500, Ireland 175. River Plate mutton is quoted at 3|d.
