FOOTBALL.
On Saturday Hukanui met and defeated Mangatainoka by 3 points to nil. The ground was heavy after the rain, and the ball was greasy. This militated against brilliant play. The game was very evenly contested in the first spell, but the weight of the Hukanui forward*, told in the second spell, and they had their lighter opponents "run out'" at the finish. Wells and Henry played capital games in the forwards and Morris, Main and Popplewell were the pick of the Hukanui backs, and made few mistakes. For Mangatainoka, Johnston in the forwards and Connor in the backs were the best of " a very even lot. Hawked scored for Hukanui. Mr Mcßobie was referee.
