BRITAIN AND GERMANY.

Received June 17, 8.57 a.m. LONDON, June 16. King Edward unveiled, in front of the new War Office, an equestrian statue to the Duke of Cambridge, by Mr Adrian Jones. King Edward referred in terms of deep appreciation to the honour the Kaiser had conferred in sending ■Field-Marshal von Hahnke and a deputation of the Van Goeben Regiment to take part,in the ceremony. (The late Duke of Cambridge, cousin of Queen Victoria, was Com-| mander-in-Chief of the army for many years. Lord Wolseley succeeded him. With regard to the Kaiser's action, it was recognised some little time ago that a dangerous point had been reached in German antipathy to British policy and to King Edward's diplomatic efforts in particular. For instance, the "Reichsbote," the organ of the Palace and High Church Party, said: "England is attempting to impress all Europe into service in her plans for isolating Germany. The man whose restless occupation at the present moment threatens the peace of Europe is, more and more plainly, none other than the English King." Since then, the Government officially disclaimed a similar article that appeared in the Cologne Gazette; and latterly Anglo-German relations have tended to still further improvement through Prince Bulow's conciliatory speech, and the cordial reception of English editors in Germany.)
