FIRE ON AN OIL-LAUNCH.

MAORIS JUM£ OVERBOARD. THREE PERSONS DROWNED. By Telegraph--Press Association. NELSON, June 16. At 12.30 o'clock this morning a party of eight Maoris left Croixelles in an oil-launch for' Nelson, to attend a sitting of the- Land Court. Their launch was in charge of one of their number, named Mohane. , After proceeding about half a , mile, a leak in, the engine-was discovered, and when a lantern was taken to examine the engine a fire occurred. ' Mohane and several others jumped overboard, and, though the launch was only three chains from land, one man, a woman, and a boy were drowned. The present , information does not give the names of the drowned persons.
