TERRIBLE STATE OF AFFAIRS. Received June 14, 10 p.m. PEKIN, June 14. Famine-stricken Chinese in many localities are eating human flesh. Some rice has been distributed to townspeople, but those in the country are left to starve. Chinese robber bands at Upper Tonking have been driven to kill and eat several captives when foodless. Many women and children who have been liberated, narrate horrible scenes of butchery among these cannibals.
