OBITUARY
MAJOR-GENERAL SIR A. ELLIS. Received June 13, 8.42 a.m. LONDON, June 12.
Major-General Sir Arthur Ellis, Comptroller of the King's Household, died suddenly in the stalls at Covent Garden, during a gala performance. The public imagined that he had only fainted. The news was withheld from the King and the Danish royal guests until after the performance. King Edward was greatly shocked. (Major-General Sir Arthur Edward Augustus Ellis, Comptroller in the Lord Chamberlain's department to the King, was born at Gibraltar on December 13th, 1837. He served in the Crimea and took part in the Siege of Sebastopol. He also served in India. He was Equerry to the Prince of Wales in 1867.)
