MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

FINANCE COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Finance Committee of the Masterton County Council was held, yesterday morning, there being present—Crs W. J. Welch (chairman), C. E. Cock-burn-Hood, W. Harris, J. Morris, H. Toogood, and A. Murray. The Treasurer reported as follows: —General Fund Account, dr., £1,138 7s 6d; Local Bodies Loans Account, cr, £346 2s lOd; accounts, dr. balance, £893 4s sd; receipts for the month, £157 16s 3d. Accounts amounting to £1,498 15s Id were passed for payment. It was decided that the letter from Mr A. H. Tinkham, on the subject of the Council guaranteeing the interest and working expenses in connection with the proposed telephone line to Stronvar, be received, and the writer informed that the terms, upon which he was advised by the County Clerk the Council would be prepared to give the matter consideration, have not yet been complied with. Mr Charles Smith wrote claiming £1 Is for work done in clearing slips on the Waihoki Road. The letter was referred to the representatives of the Alfredton riding and the County Engineer, to deal with. The Committee regretted that it was unable to recommend the Council to give favourable consideration to Mr J. Kestrup's application for remission of penalty on his 1906-7 rates. COUNCIL MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Council was held yesterday afternoon. There were present—Crs C. E. Cockburn-Hood (chairman), W. J. Welch, W. Harris, J. Morris, R. F. R. Beetham, A. Murray, C. C. Kebbell.H. Toogood and J. Colquhoun. Mr Jas. Miller wrote asking the Council when the culvert at the Deep Creek leading to his property would be repaired. The culvert had been washed away, and consequently all wheel traffic had been stopped. The matter was left to the Engineer. Mr A. J. Percy wrote directing the Council's attention to the condition of the culverts on the road fronting his property at Te Ore Ore. It was decided to leave the in the hands of the Engineer and Councillor for the riding.. [ Mr H. G. Williams wrote remitting I£3 6s as a contribution upwards metalling the road leading to the golf : links. I Mrs Dorsetfc waited on the Council and asked for a lease of the Council's gravel-pit at Rangitumau. After consideration, the Council decided not to grant a lease. The Chairman was authorised to affix the seal of the Council to the plan of the road made through Lett Bros.' property at Lansdowne. It was decided to write to Mr C. E. Daniell asking him to remove his tram rails from the Weraiti Road. The Engineer was instructed to clean out the drains and culverts on Bruce's Road, Dreyerton.
