ADULTERATION OF WINE.
MONSTER .DEMONSTRATION. Received June 10, 9.48 p.m. PARIS, June 10. The peasant population of two and a-half millions in the South of solidly support the agitation for legislation against the adulteration of wine. Half a million flocked to Mont Pellier and a monster peaceful demonstration was held yesterday. Hundreds of special trains brought people.from beyond a radius of 24 miles. The organisers stipulated that those within that distance should walk or rich in carts. The bishop .placed the cathedral and churches at .the organisers' disposal, and accommodated women and children unable to,find lodgings. Marceliin Albert, leader of the .movement, himself a peasant, enjoined the strictest sobriety among his followers lest the cause would be injured. He protested against the needless presence of ten thousand troops. No intoxicants were sold. Received June 10, 11.53 p.m. PARIS, June 10. Peasants, carrying miniature coffins, g.uilotines, black flags, and banners hearing the inscription, "Soldiers, do not fire on your brothers, who are famishing!" marched in procession through the streets of Mont Pellier. The meeting resolved that unless the Government yielded to the demands, to-day, that payment of taxes be refused. The Mayors and members of the municipalities in the districts affected will resign, while those refusing to do so will be coerced.
