SHOALS OF TUNNIES. Received June 7, 10.14 a.m. SYDNEY, June 7. There are large shoals of Southern tunnies off the coast. This is the first recorded visit of the tunny to these waters. NOT REPATRIATED AUSTRALIANS. Received June 7, 10.4 a.m. SYDNEY, June 7. The Seaman's Union delegate has reported to the Labour Council that 80 per cent, of the last batch of men from South Africa are not repatriated Australians. When the officials could not get a full complement of Australians the vacancies were thrown open to the public of DurDan. LOST PROM A SHOOTING PARTY. Received June 7. 8.45 a.m. PORT DARWIN, June 7. The search for Engineer-Comman-der Silk, of H.M.S. Pyramus, continues. Tracks have been discovered in the vicinity of a dense mangrove swamp. SILK FOUND. Received June 8, 1.9 a.m. PORT DARWIN, June 7. Engineer-Commander Silk has been found. Excepting for his weak condition he suffered little during his five days'wandering. (The missing officer became separated from shooting party near Palmerston last Sunday.) MONEY FOR STRIKERS' FAMILIES. Received June 7, 10.15 a.m. PERTH, June 7. The Full Court refused to discharge the injunction against the Timber Workers' Defence Committee. The object of the injunction was to prevent the members of the committee aiding and •; abetting strikers by the distribution of financial relief to strikers and their families. The Chief Justice said the workers had set up an Arbitration Court, and must abide by its decisions.
THE MINT ROBBERY. Received June 7, 10.13 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 7. Senior Constable Barclay has been relieved of duty at the Mint. He is. charged with misconduct in that he did not take sufficient care to try the safe where the stolen bar gold (worth £1,700) was deposited. \ DEATH OF CAPTAIN CHATFIELD. Received June 7, 11.40 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 7. The death is announced of Captain Chatfield, formerly in the service of the Union Steamship Company. PUBLIC SERVANTS AND INCOME TAX. Received June 7, 11.40 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 7. The High Court of Appeal has decided that the Commonwealth public servants are not required to pay income taxi WATERLOO CUP. Received June 7, 11.40 p.m. SYDNEY, June 7. The Waterloo Cup final was won by Bladen's Bulwark, with Lawson's Longspan runner-up. THE BLACK RANGE TRAGEDY. Received June 7, 11.40 p.m. SYDNEY, June 7. An inquest was held to-day in connection with the Black Range, (Albury) tragedy. Alfred Livermore, a labourer, shot his wife and afterwards committed suicide. Previous to shooting his wife Livermore threw his child (a baby) into the fire. The evidence showed that Livermore drank all he earnsd, and frequently ill-treated his wife, who worked hard to maintain herself and her child.
METHODIST CONFERENCE. Received June 8, 12.45 a.m. SYDNEY, June 7. The Methodist Conference discussed the proposals of the London Wesleyan Methodist Society regarding the extension of the operations of the Methodist Missionary Society of Australasia to India. Dr. Brown moved the adoption of the recommendation of the New South Wales Conference that the extension of the mission to India be postponed for the present, on the grounds that a large amount of mission work has still to be done in the islands of the Pacific, and also on the grounds of extra expenditure, pointing out that the current expenditure for the past three years exceeded the income by nearly £2,000. THE CRICKET TROUBLE. Received June 8. 1.9 a.m. SYDNEY, June 7. It is stated in cricket circles that the suspension of players will be unconditionally lifted on July Ist.
