THE FISHERIES DISPUTE. Received June 7, 8.23 a.m. LONDON, June 6. Mr Chamberlain, in a letter to the organisers of a dinner to Sir Robert Bond, Premier of Newfoundland, said:—"l trust that the difficulties in connection with the fisheries question will be satisfactorily arranged, and that this will be a prelude to that union with the great Dominion of the West which I believe will ultimately be found to be most conducive to the permanent welfare of Newfoundland." • Sir Robert Bond, speaking atthe dinner, remarked that the union of Newfoundland with Canada was at present neither desirable nor within the scope of practical politics. Had the precis of the proceedings of the Imperial Conference been more adequate, what would have occurred thereat in relation to Newfoundland would not have been misrepresented in the press. He regretted that the Blue Book withheld the report of the discussions following on his statement to the conference, by describing the discussion as private.
