The Derby Stakes, of 6,500 sovs one and 4 a half miles, resulted as follows Mr Croker's ch c Orby, by Orme —Rhoda 1 Col. E. W. Baird's b c Wool Winder, by Martagon—St. Windeline 2 Lord Howard de Walden's ch c Slieve Gallion, by Gallinule — Excellenza 3 Nine horses started for the race. Orby won by two lengths, half a length between second and third. Time, 2min 44sec. Betting at the start of the race was 13 to 8 on Slieve Gallion; 1.00 to 9 each against Orby and Wool Winder. AUSTRALIAN RACING. Received June 6, 10.8 a.m. MELBOURNE, June 6. Late entries, including two from New Zealand, bring the total entries for the Melbourne Cup to 175, making a record. The Grand National Hurdles has attracted 46 and the Steeplechase 41. Additional nominations have swelled the Caulfield Cup total to 160; Caulfield National Hurdles, 46; Steeplechase, 53.
