The balloonists, in passing, shouted to the inhabitants of Winterborne Abbas to clutch a rope which was dangling level with the roofs. Almost immediately the balloon soared seawards. One of the occupants was seen in the rigging apparently endeavouring to do something to the mechanism. Received June 3, 11.44 p.m. LONDON, June 3. The balloon was very near the ground in several places at Dorsetshire. The officers could have slipped down the rope. They carried no grapnels.
