WORKERS' HOMES AND LAND SETTLEMENT LEAGUE.

At a meeting of members of the above League, to be held next Wednesday evenng, the committee will submit the following platform:—-

The name of the League shall be "The Masterton Workers' Homes and Land Settlement League." The League has no party politics. In forming the League it is simply desired to create an organised force of all workers, apart from individual political views, with the aim of assisting the workers. The League is not formed with the purpose of helping the man with the shovel any more than the man who weilds a pen; it aims at helping both and benefiting every genuine toiler in the community, no matter what his trade or work may be. Hearty and earnest co-operation is asked for and expected, in the belief that if the workers will organise and work together with enthusiasm, that a deal can be done to ameliorate and improve their present condition. OBJECTS. The objects of the League shall be establishment of a system whereby the workers of Masterton who wish to acquire homes for themselves, may do so upon terms and conditions within the reach of all; (2) to bring under the notice of the workers of Masterton the provisions of the Workers'' Dwellings Act, 1905, and amendments thereof, and to promote discussion of the same, also, should it be thought desirable, to suggest amendments to the Act, and to bring such suggestions under the notice of the Minister for Labour; (3) to advocate the closer settlement of rural land; (4) to impress upon the public of Masterton the fact that the growth of the town has been, and is, and always will be, serriously retarded until the land in the surrounding districts is more closely settled and local industries, the outcome of closer settlement, are established; (5) to watch all questions affecting the workers, and to act always upon the principle thai "the labourer is worthy of his hire!"
