Received .May 31, .7„46.a.m. LONDON, May 30. At Ahe k Conference, a Victoria delegate, Mr L. A. Adam,son, M.A., Headmaster ..of Wesley College, Melbourne, suggested the formation of a union of the, great boys' schools of the Empire, through .the old boys'.associations. The League the Empire-would baa.suitable organising centre. Mr Tate, Director of Education,in Victoria, addressing the .training of teachers section, said cthat though immense good ,ar.ises iroin teachers being in close .association' with J;he \university, it was necessary ,to sound a note of warning. A distinguished university career was not a.substitute for the power to teach. Victorian • .experience proved that a preliminary period us a junior :aaaiatant was*■important before a training reallege course. Mr Williams, Director of Education (Adelaide),, .addressed the nature study section, and outlined the ;Sauth Australian system. The Conference has finished its discussion on the advisability vQf closer co-operation in the recognition of certificates admitting to courses of study in universities, technical schools, and agricultural colleges. Mr S. H. Butcher, M.P. for Cambridge University, thought the whole matter must be worked out by ar- " rangement. ' Sir Philip Sydney Jones, Vica - Chancellor of the University of Sydney, thought other universities might imitate Sydney's liberal concessions to the undergraduates and graduates of other universities.
