A PROTEST.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —Words inadequately express my sentiments at the want of brotherly feeling, sympathy and respect due to the worshippers in the Wesleyan Church, Lincoln Koad, last Sunday, by, I presume, the band belonging to the Volunteer regiment of this town. I am only a visiting stranger, and in all my sojourns, I never knew of such a want of intelligence displayed by any band, where they insisted upon playing, perfectly well knowing that Divine service was being conducted, and more particuV larly seeing they themselves came from a place of worship. Music most of us appreciate, but it would indeed puzzle one's musical ability to understand where all the thumping of the drum was necessary, and as to recognize the piece, if it was such, the least said the better, but you know classical music at any time is mistaken for a conglomeration of noise. —I am, etc., i "BONNIE SCOTLAND." Masterton, May 26th, 1907.
