In connection with the recent plot, a Russian girl student and revolutionary offered £BOO to a member of the Cossack bodyguard if he would assassinate the Czar during his sleep. By direction of Prince Troubetsky, commander of the palace guards, the Cossack haggled for £I,OOO. When he was about to mount guard in the even'ng was the time fixed for the attempt. The conspirators handed him two infernal machines, of the size of watches, with directions to place them beneath the beds of the Czar and Czarevitch. The authorities then made numerous arrests.
