UNREST IN INDIA.
EMISSARIES OF SEDITION. SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT. Received May 23, 9.9 a.m. CALCUTTA, May 22. The Manipur State, in North India, which has been under the direct control of the Indian Government since the massacre of British officials in 1891, has now been transferred to a native ruler. Emissaries of sedition are circulating reports in, the Punjab that the Government has poisoned the wells, causing the plague. Wild excitement prevails in villares near Lahore. Two emissaries were sentenced to eighteen months' and twenty-four months' imprisonment respectively. *
