Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., held itheir fortnigthly sale at the Masterton " yards, yesterday, when about .2,500 flheep and 200 head of cattle came forward. The entry of sheep chiefly comprised hoggets, but the demand was not so keen as at recent sales, though a fair number changed hands. Bidding wa3 more brisk for empty ewes and ewea in lamb, the ;majority being sold. Cattle met with fair competition, and sold at .about last sale rates. Fat and forward ewes and wethers reached 16s 4d, fat and forward ewes with few wethers 14s 9d, ewes in lamb 13s Id to 14s, culls 6s 7d, empty ewes 12s 3d, woolly hog,gets 13b 4d, culls 9s 4cl, shorn hog.gets to 12s 2d, mixed weanors and yearlings 34s 6d, cow a and calves 60s, fat cows 83s to 85s, forward cowa to 60s, small weaners lis. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report as follows:—At Pongaroa, on the 17th inst., despite the unfavourable state .of the weather, roads, etc., we had a .full yarding in both sheop and cattle, every pen selling under the hammer Hundvanced rates. At Pahiatua, on sheep entries were somewhat limited, those penned, however, finding a ready market at jriceu -equal to those of previous sales. In cattle we had a heavy yarding, with a largo proportion of cows, which , were difficult to quit at low figures. Weancru showed a decline, but all steers offered changed hands, the larger cattle being lower in values, a fact mainly due to the quantity of bullock country being, spoiled for some time by the recent .floods. At Masterton, on tho 22nd inst., we < dffered a big catalogue of sheep, embracing all classes. Wethers were ; in good demand, all finding pur- ' chasers at advanced prices, as did anyjreally strong lambs and forward ■ ewes, but poor quality sheep, jPtncl weak lambs showed a decline. prime mutton offered. All the * cattle pens were filled, cows and heifers again being much in evidence,

A few nice lota of beef, both in •ox and cow, found a ready sale. At . Pongaroa ewes had a range . of from 16a lid down to 6s 4d,< ewes and ■wethera 15s lOd, lambs (according to quality) 13s down to 10s, young steers 60s. 2-year-olds Bss, 18-months 455, yearlings 31s, weaners 15s, forvward cows'and heifers 35s to 60s. At Pahiatua: Ewes lis to 12s 9d, lambs 10s 6d to 12s, 3-year steers 90s, 2- ' .year 70s, 18-month 50s, yearlings 30s, "calves 10s to 17s 6d, forward cows 45s,Jatorea 255, cows and calves 60s, heifers 25s to 40s. At Masterton : Best ewes in lamb 15s, others 9s, 10s, lis. 12s 3d, fat ewes, best 15s 2d, others 14s to 14s 9d, forward ewes 13s 9d to 14s 3d, wethers 15s .to 16s lid, extra good lambs 14s 9d, -good lambs 13s 2d, others lis to 12s, fat steers £7 5s to £6 Is, fat cows and heifers £4, 'light heifers <4s, 3-year steers £5, 2&-year £4, vC-year 60s, 18-months 455, best calves 20s, store cows 20s to 355.
