NEW HEBRIDES COMMISSION. Received May 20, 9.28 p.m. LONDON, May 20. The Anglo-French New Hebrides Commission has concluded its sittings.

MR DEAKIN AND LABOUR. Received May 20, 10.23 a.m. SYDNEY, May 20. Mr J. S. T. McGowen, leader of the Labour party in the State Parliament, discredits the report cabled from London as to Mr Deakin's prophecy about reverses of the Labour party in New South Wales and Queensland. Mr McGowen says: "There is a cold-bloodedness about the thing that is foreign to all we know of Mr Deakin, politically and personally." Received May 20, 10.23 a.m. MELBOURNE, May 20. Mr Deakin's prediction was received with astonishment in Labour ranks. Mr Prendergast, leader of the State Labour party, declared that it suggested to his mind that Mr Deakin found himself in the position of Baron Munchausen, who, when losing the confidence of the people of Africa, resorted to the expedient of importing shiploads of fudge. Mr Deakin Ls apparently following the Baron's austere example.
