SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. MA3TERTON v. GLADSTONE. ' The Masterton and Gladstorc seniors met on the Sbowgronds on Saturday afternoon. The ground was very rain fell during the greater part of the match. Masterton outclassed Gladstone [in eveiy department of the game. The teams were ss follow :—Masterton— Fullback, Rawson; threequaiters, Mine'tt, O'Leary and Duggan; five-eighth, Gamett; half, Logan; wings, Gray and Riley; forwards, Fielding, Bany, Lyall, C. Ko3s, A. Ross, Mackeilar ?nd Chapman. Gladstone—Fullback, King; thnequarters, Andrews, Isaac and Stafford; five-eighths, Duncan and Mita; half, Stoil;wing, Moana; forwards, Rangi, Cortiy, Rawhira, Bojle, Harland, Homo and Hector. Gladstone kicked off, and attacked for a time. Mastortjr: gradually asserted themselves, tuarks to the splendid play of J. O'Lcaiy, Logar, Gray and Barry. About a qiunter of an hour after tho start of the game, O'Leary kicked a penalty goal. Masterton continued to keep Gladstone on the defensive, and two penalty goals and a try were quickly registered by the blacks. Masterton were beating Gladstone in every way, and the score mounted up quickly. Gladstone, towards the * end of the spell, broke away with a forward ush and Co/dy scored for tha green and whites. Masterton had the best of the second spell, and added to their score. Gladstone attacked on several occasions, but could not score. The visitors were unable to withstand the fine rushes of tho Masterton forwards. The game ended — Masterton ... 31 points Gladstone ... 3 points. Tries were scored for Masterton by Logan (2), Gray, Fielding, Minett and J. O'Leary. O'Leary kicked three penalty goals and convex cod Logan's second try and also the try scored by Fielding. O'Leary and Logan played magnificent games for Masterton in the back division. Gray, C. Ross, Mackeilar and Riley were the pick of a fine set of forwards. The Gladstone players were an even lot, but were completely outclassed, both in the back and forward divisions. Mr F. Roydhouse was referee.
RED STAR v. GREYTOWN. The Red Star seniors journeyed lo Greytown, on Saturday, and met the local seniors. The following were tho teams: -Red Slar—Fuliback, Wing; threequarters, Willoughby.McLaehlan, Wrigley; !'<ve-eighth, A. Marsh; half, Walker; wings, tJeomir and Spring; forwards, Clarke, Todd, (Jolletl;, Chamberlain, Oorbctt, Fulton, Wickans, Norman (substitute). Crcytown Fullback, C. Rogers; threequarters, Fainilton, Beard, Haigh; five-eighth, P. Rogers; half, Stevensi; forwards, Raison, J. Workman, Morris, Hastings, Wines, Jury, Feast, Fuller, Scott. Greytown won the toss, and Red :!tsir defended the southern goal. Fine work by Todd, Collett and icorrar put Greytown on the defensive, and the visitors nearly scored. Oreytown relieved, and shifted play ■ ! ') the Star territory. Todd screwed 'h:; Star scrum in line style, and the Mavv, swept down the field, and Greyown were busy defending their line. Cven play followed, and eventually . lio Stars indulged in a passing rush, rem which A,. Marsh scored. Wrig-,-y converted with a fine kick, ihortly after Wrigley potted a goal,
and brought the Star score up to 9 points. The spell ended without any further score. Marsh was injured about twenty minutes after the game started and had to retire. In the second spell Norman went on in place of Marsh. There was no score in the spell, though the Stars on several occasions narrowly missed scoring through the greatness of the ball. The game ended - Red Star ... 9 points. Greytown ... nil The Stars had considerably the bcrt of the game, and their line was only really in danger on one or two 1 occasions. The Star backs played a good solid game. Of the forwards Todd was the best on the grown'. He was ably assisted by Scorrnr, Clarke, Collet and Corbett. Mr E. McKenzie was referee. JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP-^ RED STAR v. CARTERTON. On the Showgrounds, on Saturday last, the Rod Star and Carterton juniors met. Red Star had the best of the game, and would have scored more, but for the attempts of some of the forwards to pick up the ball instead of dribbling. In the first spell, R. McKenzie and Bannister scored tries for Stars and H"dge for Carterton. In the second spell Bannister scored ancther try for the Stars, and Muir scored a try for Carterton. R. McKenzie was the best forward on the ground, and he was ablv assisted by J. Kingdon and K. Welch. Of the Star backs Ball played a splendid game, and was well supported by the others. W. Flaws played a good solid game at fullback. Hodge, Muir, Blake and Stone were the pick of the Carterton team. Mr R. Spademan was referee. MASTERTON v. FEATHERSTON. At Carterton, on Saturday, the Masterton Juniors defeated Featherstnn Juniors by 28 points to nil. Masterton had decidedly the best of the game throughout, Featherston only passing the half-way flag on about three occasions. For the winners A. Danioll, Holmes and MacMahon scored two tries each, and W. Harding and Jackson one each. Cook and Meredith were each successful in converting one try. For Masterton Daniel! played a splendid game in the forwards, and was ably backed up*by Hanley and Harding. Holmes and Jackson were prominent in the backs. Mr R. Crawley was referee.
On Saturday, on the schoolerounds. a match wan played between tt-ania representing the sixth standard of the Masterton District High School, and the Club. The latter team won by 3 points to nil. A. Hoar kicked a penalty goal for the winners. In the evening the Wcsleyan team entertained the school team and a pleasant evening was spent. Before the gathering dispersed cheers were given for Misses" Church, Graham and Smith, and Messrs Mannell and Nicol, who assisted at the social.

' Results of Saturday's Senior football matches: —Alhambra beat Union by 19 to nil, University and Dune'lin a draw (no score), Southern beat Taieri Rovers by 9 to 3, ZingariRichmond beat Port Chalmers by 11 to nil, Kaikorai and Pirates a draw (six points each).
According to an English paper of March 28th. the suggested visit of the New Zealand professional team has been considered by most of the clubs, and also by the committee of the Northern Union. The latter were wishful of speedily finding out the opinions of the clubs, and with that object in view they .sent out the following circular, which explains itself:—"The committee have had this matter under consideration, and they are very favourably disposed to the visit providing-- (1) They receive satisfactory asurance as to strength of team; (2) sufficient support in guarantees from dubs in membership with or.r union. Tho committee suggest that the New Zealand team be paid 70 ;>er cent, of the gross gate, with a guarantee from thc*union that their share for the tour be not less tnan' .£3,000. To meet this guarantee it is suggested that each club or combination having a match with the New Zeajand team shall guarantee the New Zealand share of the gate to be:— (a) For a Saturday or holiday match, .£100; (b) for a mid-week match, £SO. The amounts guaranteed to be deposited in the bank 'to the credit of "New Zealand Guarantee Fund" not later than June Ist next. It is estimated that th« guarantees from clubs will amount to between ,£2,000 and .£2,500, and the Union Committee will be propared to make up balance of guarantee. ''
