THE NORTHERN APPROACH.
At the monthly meeting of the Council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce, yesterday afternoon, the Chairman (Mr J. D. Cruickshank) reported that in company with Mr B. J. Dolan he had waited on the Borough Council in connection with improving the Northern approach to Masterton, and the Council had informed them that the best thing to do was to get up a petition asking that Lam>downe be taken over by the Borough. Mr Dolan said that after waiting on the Council ho had been approached by a large landowner at Lanscowne who informed him that he was quite willing to sign a petition asking that Lansdowno should be taken into the Borough. Mr Cruickshank said he had been similarly approached by another landowner, who stated that although it would increase his rates he was prefectly willing that Lansdowne should be taken over by the Borough. Mr D. Donald considered that they had a just grievance against the County Council who, it seemed, were resolved to take no steps in the matter. Discussion on the matter then dropped.
