NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL FOR MASTERTON.

PROJECT DISCUSSED BY THE. MANAGERS. A special meeting of the Managers of the Masterton Technical School was held, last evening, for the purpose of discussing the question of obtaining a new Technical School for Masterton. There were present —Messrs W. H. Jackson (in the chair), E. H. Waddington, J. M. Coradine and J. B. Keith. . Mr Coradine said the matter of a building scheme for a new Technical School had been before the Managers for a number of years past, but they had been unable to devise any satisfactory scheme. At the meeting of' the Borough Council,on Tuesday evening last, the question of public subscriptions to a memorial to the late Mr R. J. Seddon came before the Council, aiid it was agreed that, something should be done locally in. preference to subscribing to a memorial in Wellington. Mr Coradine said that he pointed out to the Council that the Managers of the Technical School were eager to obtain a new school, and he considered that a new building was very necessary. They had over two hundred pupils at the School, and the work was considerably hampered for the want of an up-to-date building and appliances. The Borough Council supported the project, and carried a resolution that something should be done in Masterton in the way of erecting a memorial to the late Premier. They agreed that the erection of a Technical School would be a suitable memorial, and a committee' consisting of Crs F. W. Temple, J. C. Ewington and A. Haughey and himself was appointed to go„into the matter. Mr Coradine stated that the Managers had previously made several attempts to start a building fund, and he considered they now had a fair opportunity of establishing a fund that, would ultimately result in a new Technical School being erected in Masterton. His idea was that the Managers should set to work at once'and call a meeting of the Technical Managers and the Borough Council Committee and other citizens to go into the matter. Mr M. C. O'Cohnell had a subscription list which he had been taking round in aid of Seddon memorial, and he was prepared to hand over any money he nad collected for the benefit of any local scheme. The speaker thought any difficulties in the way could be overcome by erergetic work and perseverance. II i n idea was to ask the Borough Committee and Mr O'Connell to meet the Managers on a day to be fixed, say, Monday or Tuesday next, and discuss the matter. Mr Coradine then moved—"That a building committee be formed for the establishment of a Technical School in Masterton as a Seddon memorial." Mr Keith seconded the motion, which was carried. Mr Coradine moved, and Mr Keith seconded, that a meeting be held in the Borough Council Chambers, on Wednesday evening next, at 8 o'clock, and that the following local bodies and others be invited to attend: —Technical School Managers, Borough Council Committee, Trust Land Trustees, Chamber of Com' merce, County Council, School Committee, Mr A. W. Hogg, member for the district, Mr M. C. O'Connell, representative of the Seddon Memorial Committee. Revs. Dean McKenna, A. M. Johnson, A. T. Thompson, and J. N. Buttle, and the public generally. On the motion of Mr Jackson a vote of thanks was accorded Mr Coradine for the manner in which he had helped the matter along.
