The examinations in connection with the City and Guilds of London Institute, will probably be held between May 29th and 31st. The theoretical part of the examination will be conducted in the Technical School, Hall Street, under the supervision of J\fr N. D. Bunting,'whilst the examinations .in the practical portion of the work will be held in the Technical Workshop, Dixon Street.
Porangahau, Hawke's Bay, is suffering from an epideniic of scarletina and measles. There is one case of tonsilitis, and sore throat is also prevalent. Dr. de Lisle, District Health Officer, visited the .towhship, last week, and-made an examination and gave several directions to prevent the spread of the disease. The public school is closed. The Maoris so far have escaped, with the exception of one halfcaste child, who is living in the township. The great difficulty is to get parent* to isolate those who are infected.

The main road through the bush between Ninia and its intersection with the road leading to .the Rangitawa station is reported to be in a deplorable condition, says the Taihape tyews. On 'Tuesday several teams were \stuck, and carting over that tjuagmire is a work attended with considerable risk to the safety of property' and life. It five horses to draw half a ton through this road. With' the extension of the rails to Rangitawa, freight can bd conveyed to thfs point iof the line,' and the bad portion of the road will no longer present a menace to the safety of the travelling public and teamsters.
The country on .which stalking can be obtained in the district being private property, says the annual report- of the 'Wellington Acclimatization - Society, the council for many years has been trying to get the rough country between Palrrterston "North, Masterton and Wellington stocked. This year twenty defer have been obtained and turned out. at Levin, Eketahuna, Mount Holdsworth, Parap&raumu, and the Upper Tauherenikau. Most of the herds already s established in those districts are reported to be thriving. Owing to the HaUrangi Reserve not being open, most of the stalkers who desired to come to the Wairarapa were informed that no stalking could be obtained ,in the Wellington district, except on private property, so that this year if; is anticipated that.a falling-off in revenue from deer licenses will occur. The council hope by the next season to have arranged with the Governiflent to open part of the Haurangi Reserve, and' that the balance shall be kept as a sanctuary. MERIT REWARDED BY COURT OP .
