FIRE BRIGADES ACT.
The Town Clerk (Mr R. Brown) has received the following communication from the Colonial Secretary's Office:—' ' Order in Council declaring Masterton to be a Fire District will be Gazetted next week, but it is doubtful whether the Fire Board can be elected at present, as notice has to be given before the 30th April. See rules under Fire Brigades' Act, Gazetted 25th April." Mr Brown stated. to an Age representative that one defect in the Fire Brigades' Act is that it does not give "the Governor power to make regulations to rectify any omissions in the Act. He thought that the Board would prObabJy elect its members, and its action would be validated by an amendment in the Act. Mr Brown considered it probable that the Mayor, Mr Hogg and himself would wait on the Minister in connection with the matter.. On being interviewed on the subject, Mr A. W. Hogg, M.H.R., stated that he had not had any) communication from Mr Brown, on the matter so far, but he considered that there would be no need to interview the Minister. He thought a telegram sent to the Minister would settle, the matter satisfactorily.
